I love a shiny, moisturizing lip oil as I’m sure many of you all do too! I prefer for mine to contain ingredients that I am familiar with and that I know are good for my skin. This DIY Essential Oil Lip Oil is so easy to make and is great for keeping lips soft and supple, especially during the dry winter months. There are only 3 ingredients in this roll on lip oil, all of which are great for your skin/lips. This homemade lip oil recipe goes in an essential oil roller bottle so it is quick and easy to use.

• Liquid Coconut Oil
• Orange Essential Oil
• Peppermint Essential Oil

What do you need to make homemade lip oil?

This homemade lip oil only requires a few natural ingredients. The nourishing lip oil base is liquid coconut oil. This lip oil was chosen for its ability to repair dry, chapped lips.

As Healthline says, “In alternative medicine, coconut oil is a mainstay in burn treatment. This is due to its moisture, as well as its analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. These same effects can translate to benefits for chapped, cracked lips.”

Furthermore, coconut oil is an excellent emollient that works to moisturize and protect lips from the elements.

An alternative lip oil base is sweet almond oil. It is a little bit thicker than coconut oil so you may like it better if you need intense hydration and protection. It can be on the stickier side though so coconut oil is great when you want a light oil.

Essential Oils For Lip Oil

I suggest using Young Living essential oils for this DIY recipe because they are pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. The Young Living Vitality line of essential oils is best because it is made to be safe to ingest. Peppermint oil was chosen for this lip oil because it has a fresh scent and provides a slightly cooling sensation which could almost be described as tingly.

Orange essential oil is naturally anti-bacterial and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is great for soothing lips and has a wonderful scent.

When making your own lip oil, you may substitute your favorite essential oils but make sure they are a mild, healing oil natural oils like rose essential oil and not something like oregano essential oil which is too strong for such sensitive skin.

Essential oils are extremely potent. For this reason, it is important to dilute them in carrier oil before application and follow safety guidelines. The carrier oil used in this homemade lip oil recipe is coconut oil but you could substitute olive oil or jojoba oil if you prefer. Vitamin E oil can also be used as an additive if lips are very dry and in need of deeper hydration and repair. These liquid carrier oils allow for a smooth flowing gloss that can be stored in lip oil bottles and rolled on for easy application.

Once you have added your drops of essential oil to the roller bottle, use a small funnel to fill the rest of the bottle up with your liquid coconut oil. (Alternatively, you can use sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil or even avocado oil if you prefer. Those are all great for your skin and safe to put on your lips).
