Step 1: Store the kit in a safe place
This kit is for your eyes only, so remove the Meet Tess the Tooth Fairy storybook and put the rest of the kit somewhere safe from curious kids until your child loses a tooth.
Step 2: Read the Meet Tess the Tooth Fairy storybook with your child.
Whether your child has a loose tooth or not, introduce them to Tess, and let the excitement begin. Then when they lose a tooth, they will already know what to expect. The Meet Tess the Tooth Fairy storybook makes a great bedtime story, so add it to your bedtime routine.
Step 3: When your child loses a tooth, grab your kit and make Tess proud.
Before bedtime:
- Place the tooth in one of the Tess Tooth Bags and help your child write their name and date on the bag to get it ready for Tess’ arrival.
- Put the bag on the nightstand in their room. You can also put the bag on a table in the living room. This way you can place the coin and the note later on without disturbing your child. Plus, it’s just easier!
After your child falls asleep:
- Select the Tess Thank You Card that matches the tooth that your child lost (i.e. first tooth=card number 1, second tooth=card number 2) and one Fairy Gold Coin from your kit. Remember: The Tess Thank You Cards are numbered. Be sure to select the right card.
- Confirm that your child is asleep, then quietly enter their room and place the card and the coin next to the Tess Tooth Bag (or on the table in the living room).
Step 4: Celebrate with your child.
The true magic and fun of this experience is the next morning. Your child will be so excited to see that Tess came to visit. Enjoy this time with them, read their note from Tess, and celebrate their earning a Fairy Gold Coin.

Essence is a special liquid in the innermost part of a tooth that makes it healthy. In the Meet Tess the Tooth Fairy book it is pictured as a bright green liquid. Tess uses the essence from healthy teeth to keep Tessland shiny and bright.
What is the fairy brigade?
The fairy brigade is a group of fairies who live in Tessland with Tess and help her keep Tessland and the castle shiny and bright.
I have more than one child. Can I use the same kit for my other children?
If your children are at the age where they are losing teeth at the same time, then it is a good idea to purchase an additional kit. If you only have one child who is losing teeth, then you can reuse the kit if it is still in good condition.
Why are the Tess Thank You Cards numbered?
The Tess Thank You Cards are numbered to match the tooth that your child has lost and to match the task in Tessland that Tess completes using the essence from their tooth. So be sure to keep the cards in order and select only 1 card at a time.
The Tess Thank You Cards are numbered. What if I don’t know which tooth my child has lost?
Ask your dentist, since they have dental records and x-rays for your child. Ask your child. They may know. Or just estimate. Either way, your child will enjoy the note from Tess, the Fairy Gold, and the Tessland experience.
What if my child asks if Tess is real?
Follow your child’s lead. If you think that they are ready to know the truth, then tell them the truth. If you think they still want or need to believe that Tess is real, then wait. There is no need to rush a child through the magic of childhood. Sometimes children ask this question because they want to hear more about Tess and explore her story more. What if my child has already lost a tooth and asks why Tess has never left a note and gold coin before?
Tess admits that she may have dropped the ball in the past and missed a few
teeth. Nobody is perfect. However, she now has a new and improved system for
tracking lost teeth that includes a Tesstacular watch that pings her when a tooth
is ready and waiting and a digital map that gives her the fastest and most
accurate route to the lost tooth (both of which are shown in the Meet Tess the
Tooth Fairy storybook). Tess is now a tech-savvy Tooth Fairy that uses technology to efficiently locate any lost tooth.
