The following contains spoilers for Chapter 3 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, "Uzuhiko," by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto, and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.
As Boruto: Two Blue Vortex kicks off the second half of Naruto's sequel series, the Hidden Leaf Village has been forcefully reminded of its dangerous enemies. Code has resumed his vendetta, this time attacking with his Claw Grime army and causing major trouble. Luckily, Boruto arrives just in time, wielding a new, scary Rasengan to save the day and protect the home that's turned on him.
However, there is still a lot of collateral damage for the Hidden Leaf Village to address, which Sarada Uchiha is currently trying to alleviate. The Hidden Leaf didn't expect to be ambushed in such a brazen manner, especially when Kawaki had so many foot-soldiers placed on its outskirts. Chapter 3 reveals that this vulnerability stems from an internal problem within the village — one that has been building since the end of Naruto: Shippuden.

A fan animation brings Boruto's new Rasengan Uzihiko jutsu to life in a devastating attack on Code.
The Claw Grime legion is at the core of Code's dangerous new plan. Each of its members was created from a piece of the Ten Tails, and they're now being sent to various points around the Hidden Leaf Village via Code's own teleportation bands. However, rather than kill citizens, the Claw Grime army is biting them and turning them into hybrid-trees. Thankfully, Sarada realizes these victims are alive, but they're still being tortured as their chakra gets drained. Longtime Naruto fans will likely draw parallels between this predicament and the God Tree, introduced to the franchise by Kaguya Otsutsuki long before the events of Boruto.
The God Tree becomes the Ten Tails Beast when fed a member of the Ōtsutsuki. This is why Isshiki wanted to use either Code, Kawaki or Boruto as a sacrifice, since they all carry the DNA of the clan. By doing so, it would presumably have enabled Isshiki to create his full-activated tree, drain the world of its chakra, and then eat the fruit to become the ultimate god. After studying the tree, Sarada realizes that Claw Grimes can't shake their innate nature as trees themselves, which is why their first instinct is to eat someone. However, seeing as they don't have any Ōtsutsuki aliens to feed on, they're devouring humans and causing this abomination of a result to happen.

Why Most Shonen Main Characters Have Basic Powers
Many battle shonen protagonists are stuck relying on straightforward techniques when they could have unique and wild abilities like everyone else.
Sarada Uchiha is devoted to her new mission — saving the citizens of the Hidden Leaf Village. However, she is currently stumped about how to rescue the victims. In an attempt to work through the issue, Sarada starts to work with Katasuke and the science team to solve the medical conundrum caused by the Claw Grime assault. As expected, fans were rather cynical about Sarada's new direction at first. Many didn't like seeing ninja tools developed by the science team, which gives them techniques and abilities that many shinobi worked years to attain. However, Boruto regularly preaches about the importance of progress, so it makes sense that technological innovation is part of that.
This is why Sarada spent time with Sumire to understand the new era and what Katasuke and Co. planned outside of military applications. Her commitment to planning was a big step towards her goal of becoming the next Hokage, and now that her aspirations are evident as ever, Sarada is prepared to deal with the fallout of the raid. It harks back to Lady Tsunade's time as Hokage, which saw her often leave frontline work to Naruto and the others. The Fifth Hokage believed her strength was taking care of the fallen, and Sarada carries that same energy, proving she is indeed ready to be the next leader.

Boruto: Kurama's Death Confirmed Naruto's Dirtiest Secret
The tragic event of Kurama's death in the Boruto anime revealed Naruto's dirtiest secret after the Isshiki war, here's how.
It's about time that science finds a bigger place in the greater Boruto narrative. This part of the Hidden Leaf Village felt directionless before, with Katasuke's team only appearing in filler episodes or sporadically chiming in on war strategies. Sarada Uchiha's recent work is a more meaningful approach, and it truly gives the Hidden Leaf Village's technology wing the chance to save the village. Nothing's more important than finding a cure for the plague at hand — a stark contrast to the Naruto era where the usual direction would be some secret jutsu or the power of teamwork.
In light of Code's recent assault, science isn't just a deus ex machina — it's a legitimate source of agency for gives Katasuke and Sarada's crew. Even if fans had to wait years for this big moment, Naruto did say there would come a day when science would be the only thing that could help the Hidden Leaf Village, and seems as though that day as finally arrived.
In addition to Code's assault, the presence of Amado makes the recent events of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex even more intriguing. The former Kara scientist worked with Isshiki on the alien clones, the God Tree, and many other aspects of Isshiki's vision; however, following his defection, he can use his insight to help the Hidden Leaf Village to find a cure. It helps his redemption arc and provides a chance to learn more about the mysteries behind the God Tree, the Ten Tails copies, and the Otsutsuki Clan.
Once Amado steps up, doubters such as the new Hokage in Shikamaru, may well see him as one of their own. Ultimately, a cure or the affliction caused by Code's onslaught would truly bring Boruto's science component to the forefront of the narrative in what's shaping up to be one of the most important periods of transition in the history of the Hidden Leaf Village.
