Celebrating her Daytime Emmy nomination — her first in nearly 30 years in soapdom — Jennifer Gareis isn’t just looking back on the material that helped her earn the accolade, she’s looking forward, too. But what the Bold & Beautiful leading lady sees in Donna might give Eric — and viewers — goosebumps.

On one hand, the veteran of Young & Restless is just delighted that she got to be at John McCook’s side during Eric’s health scare. “It was really rewarding to suddenly get something so deep and well-written,” she tells Soaps.com. “It had been a while since Donna was front and center in a storyline, so it was really an honor to be such an integral part of that plot. It really was.”
Gareis also says that it wasn’t just the fraught twists and turns that allowed her to shine but her leading man. “I really think that working with John just makes me a better actress. He takes me on a journey every single time we do a scene, and I love the ones when I don’t even know what’s going to happen.
“In those moments, I don’t make any judgments and just let it flow,” she continues, “and sometimes we go places that I’m like, ‘Whoa, that was really cool.’”
As for the future, the sky’s the limit for Donna, her portrayer reckons. “It would be nice if Donna and Eric had some sort of obstacle or challenge not related to Eric’s health, but something still heavy and deep and heartfelt. I’m not sure what, though.”
Perhaps a surprise pregnancy? “Maybe it happens accidentally,” Gareis muses. “Would they want a child? I don’t know. It’s hard to say right now.”
One thing of which the blonde bombshell is sure is that she’d love Rena Sofer to return for a Donna/Quinn rematch. (Unlikely since General Hospital now has Sofer playing her old character, Lois, but still…) In particular, “what I would like is to redo the scene in the office where she was pushing that chair at me.
I want to be pushing the chair at her this time — that would be really good.
“I mean, Quinn was scary!” she adds. “But Donna could have a scary side, too. It would be kind of fun to discover the strength in that.”
Quinn, Eric…none of us may know what hit us!

Determined to scare the blonde off, Pam made Donna the victim of a series of pranks that began with locking her in a tanning booth and turning her hair and teeth green, and escalated to holding her at gunpoint with her Doberman, Tiny, by her side.</p>

<p>Off her bi-polar meds, Pam had poisoned Eric (just a teensy bit) in hopes of curbing his sexual appetite, so as to put Donna off of him. This all came out when Pam attacked Donna at the cabin and held her at gunpoint (again!). In a close call that makes us wonder how Donna could ever have anything to do with honey or use the word “bear” ever again, she narrowly escaped being eaten by one when Pam left her tied up in the remote location covered in the sticky substance!</p>

<p>Pam’s violent threats escalated and Stephanie worked to keep Donna and Eric apart. After Pam was revealed to have a brain tumor, which was purportedly responsible for her behavior, Donna and Honey Bear reconciled even as Thorne tried to derail it with a fake photo of his step-mother kissing Owen.</p>

<p>Donna forged a tentative truce with Pam, and even went on <em>The Price Is Right</em> with her, but the pranks weren’t over and done with as Steph’s sister couldn’t resist dousing Donna in honey when she modeled a Forrester showstopper.</p>

<p>Donna and Eric’s marriage ended when she blamed Stephanie for the death of her mother, Beth. Donna received 12.5% of Forrester shares in the divorce and upset many by selling them to Bill. Despite the years of animosity, Donna was shaken by Stephanie’s death and found herself in agreement with her old nemesis, Pam, who was taken aback at Eric deciding to date Taylor Hayes.</p>

<p>Though Eric went on to marry Quinn Fuller and Donna spent time away from Los Angeles, she popped up a few times to offer some nostalgia and temptation. Eric was never upset at seeing her. Donna eventually moved back and set up shop at the receptionist desk with Pam, who tried to enlist her in a scheme to win Eric back and send his wife packing.</p>

<p>When Eric and Quinn began having marital problems and he had trouble with erectile dysfunction, it was an encounter with Donna in the office that led him to realize that his situation wasn’t as dire as it seemed. A little honey on Donna’s finger was all it took to bring back that old magic feeling.</p>

<p>Eric began having an affair with Donna behind Quinn’s back. The pair shared loved up afternoons at the health club under the guise of playing pickleball, but — of course — that’s not <em>really</em> how Donna and her honey bear were getting their heart rates up. Eric repeatedly told Donna how happy she made him and that he didn’t want to stop seeing her.</p>

<p>After Eric’s marriage to Quinn ended, Donna landed back in the Forrester mansion, but <em>not</em> with her portrait over the fireplace as has been customary with his wives. Instead, she hung a framed portrait of her Honeybear. The two hosted their families for holidays and embarked on a life of bliss until…</p>

<p>Eric became obsessed with the idea of desgining a final collection and it was revealed that he was suffering from hand tremors. RJ stepped in to help his granddad sketch his ideas, and Donna vowed they’d fight the frightening diagnosis together when it turned out Eric was suffering mini-strokes. Unfortunately, Donna and Eric learned they were facing the unthinkable as Dr. Colby gave the patriarch just six months to live.</p>

<p>After Eric was given a clean bill of health thanks to the innovative and incredible Dr. John Finnegan, he called for a celebration. As his loved ones gathered in the Forrester living room, Ridge helped Eric get down on one knee to propose to his beloved Donna.</p>
